Main study

The main study gathered the experiences of online tutorials of students studying a health and social care module between October 2019 and May 2020. The students who took part in the study came from different parts of the UK and attended a variety of different combinations of five optional tutorials, some face-to-face and some online. Melissa chose not to attend a tutorial but was happy to be interviewed about the factors that affected her choices.

The students were interviewed between February 2020 and April 2020. Three students, Joanne, Karen and Melissa, were interviewed during the coronavirus lockdown, which, for Karen and Melissa, noticeably influenced their experiences of online tuition.

I have prepared short vignettes to share the students’ experiences.

The students’ narratives were analysed using Voice Centred Relational Method (VCRM).

This page shares some suggestions about how tutors can enable positive tutorial experiences.
